The Slane Special Edition (also known as the Legacy of '81) is a limited-run blended Irish whiskey released to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the legendary rock concerts held at Slane Castle. To mark the milestone, the distillery "turned the volume up" by amping up their signature triple-cask maturation process (virgin American oak, seasoned Tennessee whiskey barrels, and Oloroso Sherry casks) to include an increased 45% allocation of virgin oak. In a clever nod to the 45 rpm vinyl record format, the whiskey is bottled at a punchier 45% ABV (compared to the standard 40%), resulting in a bolder, oak-forward profile. The pour delivers notes of vanilla spice and orchard fruits on the nose, rich dark fruit and toasted marshmallow on the palate, and a warm, lingering finish of smoldering wood.
