Raasay

The Isle of Raasay Distillery stands as a modern pioneer in the Hebrides, marking the island’s first venture into legal distilling since its opening in 2017. Founded by R&B Distillers and situated in the historic Borodale House, the site offers a rare "distillery hotel" experience where guests can stay in luxury rooms or hillside cabins overlooking the Cuillin mountains of Skye. The operation is deeply rooted in its local environment, utilizing mineral-rich water from a Celtic Iron Age well and providing significant employment to the small island community.

In terms of spirit, the distillery is famous for its "Na Sia" (The Six) maturation process, which creates a complex, lightly peated single malt. By aging both peated and unpeated spirits separately across three distinct wood types—ex-Rye whiskey, virgin Chinkapin oak, and Bordeaux red wine casks—Raasay achieves a signature profile of dark fruits, savory spice, and elegant smoke. This innovative approach has quickly earned global prestige, most notably when its Cask Strength expression was named "World's Best Scotch Whisky" at the 2025 Las Vegas Global Spirits Awards.
