Bruichladdich’s Octomore 13.1 is a monumental, super-heavily peated Islay single malt that serves as the definitive structural anchor for its release cycle. Distilled in 2016 from a 2015 harvest of 100% Scottish Concerto barley, this five-year-old expression is peated to a stratospheric 137.3 PPM and bottled at a robust cask strength of 59.2% ABV. While it initially matured in a combination of first-fill ex-bourbon and Tennessee whiskey barrels, Head Distiller Adam Hannett introduced a unique twist by recasking the liquid into fresh, first-fill American oak casks for a final flavor injection.

The nose presents an intense but sweet confrontation of earthy peat smoke and charred oak, layered with pecan pie, barley water, and buttery apricot. On the rich, oily palate, explosive waves of dark smoke and damp embers are beautifully disciplined by toasted coconut, vanilla crème brûlée, creamy oatcakes, and a hit of spiced ginger cake. It concludes with an exceptionally long, warming finish that leaves a persistent trail of mossy peat, maritime saltiness, and fragrant baking spices

Bruichladdich distillery, renowned for its commitment to innovation and quality, underwent a remarkable revival in 2000 under the guidance of indie bottler Murray McDavid and later maestro Jim McEwan. Embracing experimental cask management and diverse distillation techniques, Bruichladdich has crafted both unpeated and heavily peated whiskies, including the celebrated Port Charlotte and Octomore ranges. This private cask embodies the distillery's dedication to creating rare and exclusive whiskies that cater to enthusiasts seeking unparalleled craftsmanship.
